The BeiNei Diesel Engine Co., Ltd., based in Beijing and dating back to 1949, focuses on the production of air-cooled diesel engines and engine parts. On multi-tasking machines, the company processes mostly alloy steel and copper in boring, honing and milling operations. The BeiNei team has a lot of experience, having manufactured air-cooled engines for 35 years. The products have been applied globally in many fields, from automotive, building machinery, engineering machinery, agriculture machinery, generators, mining machinery, and more. The annual manufacturing capacity of the customer service oriented company is 15.000 sets of air-cooled diesel engines.
BeiNei had clearly defined targets at the start of the cooperation with the metalworking fluid specialists of Blaser Swisslube, remembers BeiNei Production Manager Qingzhong Yang: “Our main goals were to improve the tool life and reduce the tool costs, as well as the reduction of the scrap rate especially in the process of honing.”
In a close cooperation with the customer, the Blaser experts started with an analysis of the production processes of BeiNei. Materials, manufacturing processes, tools, metalworking fluids – all parameters were evaluated. It is this in-depth analysis and knowledge that transforms the Blaser metalworking fluids into a so-called Liquid Tool. David Liu, Central Asia Managing Director at Blaser Swisslube: “If a metalworking fluid is optimised and tailored to the materials, processes and tools, it can be much more than just a coolant. It can influence key factors such as productivity, surface quality and tool life.” Based on their rich experience, the Blaser specialists proposed to use the coolant Blasocut BC 25 MD.
A true all-rounder
Blasocut BC 25 MD is a water miscible, chlorine free, mineral oil based cutting fluid with special additivation for delicate non-ferrous materials. The universal metalworking fluid is designed for machining and grinding of steel, alloyed steels, cast iron, titanium, aluminium as well as copper and zinc containing alloys. It has excellent corrosion behaviour, good cutting performance, improved emulsion stability and good rinsing behaviour.
Tool costs reduced by 22%
After a promising test phase of three months, BeiNei already saw the benefits of the metalworking fluid change. The results were outstanding: “The coolant life has been optimised from previously three months to now 15 months. The scrap rate has been reduced by astonishing 40%, the tool cost savings are at 22%. That saves us a lot of money and makes our production more effective”, analyses Mr. Yang.
The optimised metalworking fluid has not only reduced costs, but also improved the quality. Mr. Yang: “We were able to further improve the surface quality of our parts, which is another key aspect. Blasocut BC 25 MD has a good cutting performance and at the same time it is universally applicable. It also convinces in the honing process!”
